Anna's visit to Via dell'Amore and the extensive display of love locks and keys which are locked onto the cliff
top pathway above the sea, inspired her to design a modern version of a "hope chest".
"Traditionally A hope chest, dowry chest, was given as a gift from father to daughter to collect items as
an unmarried young women in anticipation of married life. The collection of a trousseau was a common
coming-of-age rite until approximately the 1950s; it was typically a step on the road to marriage between the
courting of a man and an engagement."
This original 18th century chest has been luxuriously restored. The outside is covered in French Lace and
the inside of the chest is fitted with black velvet chesterfield paneling.
"I have formed a collection of renewed antique keys. These keys are stored inside the chest and are
intended to represent the freedom of choice which women have today. I see this piece as a giant jewelry
box, perfect for one's keepsakes and treasures."
